STC hotel brawl leads to underage drinking charges

ST. CHARLES – Four people were charged with underage drinking this week after a fight in a St. Charles hotel attracted the attention of another guest, according to St. Charles police.

A guest of Day's Inn, 100 S. Tyler Road, called police early Tuesday after hearing yelling coming from the third-floor hallway. He reportedly saw Ewelina Kopiczko, 18, of Streamwood, hit Patricia C. Vargas, 19, also of Streamwood, in the face with a closed fist, according to a police report.

A third person, Walter G. Thiede, 20, of Streamwood, appeared and also hit Vargas with his fists, according to the report.

Binita D. Martinez, 19, also of Streamwood, joined the group, trying to pull Thiede off of Vargas, according to the report.

The group dispersed after the witness announced he was calling the police.

The adults told authorities their fight began in a hotel room, which was, as police described, in disarray. Several beer cans and empty hard alcohol bottles were strewn in the room. The air conditioning unit was also hanging out of the wall, according to the report.

Police charged each of the adults with underage drinking. Kopiczko was also charged with battery, according to the report.
