Nicholas Sheley, 30, of Sterling; charged with 10 counts of first-degree murder, two counts each of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated vehicular hijacking, armed robbery, robbery, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Investigators say Sheley killed Ronald Randall, 65, of Galesburg on June 28, 2008, and stole his wallet and truck. Randall’s body was found 2 days later behind a local grocery store. His truck was found in St. Louis.
On the docket: Sheley will appear in court on a motion to dismiss 16 of the 17 counts against him.

Julie Baeza, 50, of Sterling; charged with three counts of forgery and one count each of theft of between $10,000 and $100,000 and computer fraud for allegedly stealing an unspecified amount of money from the Greater Sterling Development Corp., where she was a secretary and bookkeeper.
On the docket: Preliminary hearing. During a preliminary hearing, evidence is presented to the judge to determine whether the state has enough to justify a trial. Defendants have the right to waive the proceedings.
Luis Carranza, 19, of Sterling; charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery and mob action for a street fight June 20 that left 54-year-old Jose Lopez dead. Police say that during the fight, Carranza beat Rodolfo Luevano, 41, of Rock Falls with a belt and metal belt buckle.

Richard Espinoza, 18, of Sterling; charged with two counts of home invasion, armed robbery, residential burglary and aggravated battery for allegedly breaking into a Sterling home in June, burglarizing it and shooting a man in the forehead with a BB gun.

Ray Hager, 43, of Morrison; charged with six counts of securities fraud, three counts of theft and mail fraud.
Hager allegedly operated a 2-year scheme in which he sold unregistered investments he claimed were federally insured. He has been barred from selling securities in Illinois since December 2005.

Luisa Morell-Engelkes, 42, of Morrison; charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse for allegedly abusing a 15-year-old boy in November. She is a former volunteer at Sterling Christian School.

Kevin Olson, 52, of Morrison; charged with unlawful possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana with intent to deliver.
In May 2007, the Illinois State Police Blackhawk Area Task Force stopped three cars entering Whiteside County from Rockford. They discovered 23 pounds of marijuana in two of the three cars. Police arrested Olson, Merle Stage, 47, of Fulton; Kelly Stables, 49, of Fulton; and Jason Mueller, 32, of Miles, Iowa.

Shane Schueler, 31, of Sterling; charged with criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to land, disorderly conduct and aggravated battery for allegedly punching a Sterling man Sunday, and then returning to the house the next day and demanding to be let in.

Miguel Tamayo, 21, of Sterling; charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery and mob action for a street fight June 20 that left 54-year-old Jose Lopez dead.

Marcus Taylor, 38, of Rock Falls; charged with 16 counts of criminal transmission of HIV, three counts of burglary and seven counts of forgery.
Investigators say Taylor had unprotected sex with three Whiteside County women. He also allegedly stole checks from a Rock Falls man in January and used them to buy items at several convenience stores in Rock Falls and Sterling.

Joshua Sheley, 31, of Rock Falls; charged with concealing a homicidal death and obstructing justice for allegedly helping his brother, Nicholas Sheley, hide the body of Russell R. Reed, 93, of rural Sterling.

Kaylyn Gideon, 21, of Ashton; charged with obstructing justice for allegedly giving Eric Lemons, 28, also of Ashton, cleaning supplies to wipe away evidence of the homicide of her roommate, Todd Harn, 28, killed April 5.

Eric Lemons, charged with three counts of first-degree murder in Harn's death.

Joseph Jones, 35, of Dixon; charged with two counts each of delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. He allegedly sold cocaine to a police informant in February and March.

Patrick Linscott, 20, of Dixon; charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification Card, unlawful possession of 10-30 grams of marijuana with intent to deliver, possession of ammunition without a FOID card, unlawful possession of a marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police arrested Linscott in August after allegedly finding a firearm in his apartment, along with 30 grams of marijuana and a pipe. Linscott is a convicted felon.
