The Romeoville Fire Department will be able to purchase rescue equipment thanks to a grant from Illinois American Water.

IAW presented a $1,000 check to the fire department as part of its 2021 Firefighter Grant Program. This year, over $92,000 will be given to more than 90 Illinois fire departments, according to a news release.

The department will purchase telescoping rams for its heavy rescue unit to use for vehicle extractions.

Romeoville Fire Chief Kent Adams said the grant helps his department achieve its mission as an emergency response organization.

“We have a large amount of industry, as well as high traffic volume in the Romeoville response area,” Adams said in the release. “By adding newer and innovative equipment, we can improve our effectiveness when responding to complex incidents.”
