‘Big Leap’ returns to film at Rialto in Joliet

Some streets around theater will be closed Thursday during filming

The sun sets over the Rialto Square Theatre on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, in Joliet, Ill.

A section of downtown Joliet around the Rialto Square Theatre will be closed off to traffic on Thursday as Fox TV crews return for more filming for the new show “The Big Leap.”

The crews will be in town Wednesday through Friday.

The comedy-drama series about participants in a reality dance show first aired Sept. 20 with the Rialto Square Theatre evident in scenes.

Crews were at the Joliet theater in December and February filming for the show.

“They’re a great, great group to work with,” Rialto Executive Director Val Devine said Tuesday. “They’re respectful of our place. They’re welcome back anytime.”

The return does mean the area immediately around the Rialto will be blocked off at times while film crews are working.

The city of Joliet announced that the Chicago Street parking lot directly across from the Rialto will be closed to the public Wednesday through Friday.

On Thursday, a portion of the Ottawa Street parking deck will be reserved for film crews, but the deck will remain open for public parking.

Also on Thursday, the following sections of downtown streets around the Rialto will be closed to traffic:

• Chicago Street between Clinton and Van Buren streets;

• Van Buren between Chicago and Scott streets;

• The western lane of northbound Scott between Clinton and Van Buren (Eastern northbound lanes remain open.);

·• The southern lane of westbound Clinton from Scott to Chicago (the northern westbound lanes remain open.)

Joliet Police will be on site for intermittent traffic control. Questions can be directed to the police non-emergency line at 815-726-2491.
