Romeoville Mayor John Noak filed to run for a fourth term in the April municipal election.
Noak was the only mayoral candidate to file, according to the village.
He was appointed to be mayor of the village in 2008 and won his first full term in 2009. He also previously served as a village trustee.
Noak said despite the hurdles posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and recession, he’s optimistic about the village’s economic future.
“Overcoming the challenges of the last year together had definitely given me a lot more energy going forward,” he said.
The mayor cited a number of new businesses and developments which still came to the village over the past year despite the challenging environment. He said Romeoville and Will County more generally have been able to weather the economic downturn successfully compared to other communities.
Noak said that’s because the village government has worked to diversify its types of businesses and municipal revenue streams.
The village has announced the development of new chain restaurants, the reuse of an old Target building, and more housing options like apartment complexes on the village’s west side. Noak also pointed to the village’s growing industrial sector. He said the village has become an “e-commerce hub.”
“I think it says a lot about the strength of our community moving forward,” he said. “(The village) is positioned well to move forward rather quickly.”
Incumbent Trustees Brian Clancy, Joe Chavez and Dave Richards also filed to run for reelection.
