Man attending memorial service in Joliet wounded in shooting: cops

Officers investigating shooting at Tezak Funeral Home

A 27-year-old man attending a memorial service at the Tezak Funeral Home in Joliet was wounded in a shooting, police said.

About 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded to the parking lot of the funeral home at 1211 Plainfield Road in response to a report of shots fired, Joliet police officials said.

Officers arrived and found evidence of a shooting and found an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot that had been struck by gunfire, police said.

A short time later, officers were notified that a 27-year-old man had been taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for a gunshot wound, police said.

“It was determined that the victim had been struck by gunfire while in the parking lot of Tezak Funeral Home after attending a memorial service,” police said.

The victim’s injury is not life threatening, police said.

Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English did not have further information about the incident because detectives were still in the process of gathering information.

A call to Jack Tezak, owner and funeral director, was not immediately returned on Friday.
