Woman charged with pulling fire alarm at Will County jail

Woman reportedly upset she couldn’t visit boyfriend at the jail, police said

A Chicago woman was charged with a felony after police said she pulled a fire alarm, ripped down signs and flipped over a trash can when she was told she could not visit her boyfriend at the Will County jail.

Titeana Washington, 22, of the 5200 block of North Ludlam Avenue, was arrested in connection with the incident.

About 6:45 p.m. Monday, sheriff’s deputies were called to the front entrance of the jail at 95 S. Chicago St. in Joliet, where they met with jail staff and Washington, sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

“Washington was very upset and yelling about wanting to visit her boyfriend in the jail,” Hoffmeyer said.

Before deputies were called to the scene, jail staff told Washington visiting inmates had its own process and that she could not make a visit at that time. Hoffmeyer said Washington subsequently pulled a fire alarm, setting the alarm off throughout the entire facility.

“She also ripped off some signs in the entryway and flipped over a trash can,” Hoffmeyer said.

Washington was jailed and her bond was set at $1,000. She previously was in jail several days before the incident when she was arrested on charges of battery and criminal trespass to property.

Washington is accused of entering a woman’s residence in the 300 block of North Bluff Street on March 25 after she allegedly was told not to do so and had struck the woman’s body.

On Friday, Washington was released from jail on a $10,000 recognizance bond.
