High school sports roundup for Thursday, Feb. 25

Daniele Cherry had 10 points, six rebounds and two assists, and Reed-Custer’s girls basketball team celebrated senior night by beating visiting Wilmington, 50-29, in Illinois Central Eight action Thursday.

Reed-Custer (4-2) had three players score in the double digits, as Maddie McPherson recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Lexi Mixner added 10 points and six rebounds.

Wilmington’s Natalie Van Duyne had 10 points and five rebounds.

Lincoln-Way West 74, Andrew 39: At Lincoln-Way West, Ava Gugliuzza led the Warriors with 21 points in the Southwest Suburban Conference game.

Tara Gugliuzza chipped in 17 for West.

Lisle 56, Coal City 21: At Coal City, the Coalers spotted the visitors a 19-6 lead after one quarter in the Illinois Central Eight contest, trailed 35-10 at halftime and 51-18 after three.

Audrey Cooper led Coal City (3-4, 3-3) with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Molly Stiles had six points and five rebounds.

Peotone 59, Manteno 20: At Peotone, Madi Schroeder had 13 points, seven assists, six rebounds and six steals for the Blue Devils in the Illinois Central Eight game.

Peotone (5-1, 4-1) also received 12 points from Mady Kibelkis. Jenna Hunter and Delaney Balmer added eight each, as the Blue Devils built a 14-4 lead after one quarter and led 32-11 at halftime.

Bolingbrook 55, Lincoln-Way East 47: At Bolingbrook, the Raiders bolted to a 22-3 lead after one quarter, and the Griffins never recovered in the Southwest Suburban contest.

Bolingbrook was up 31-16 at halftime.

Dwight 32, Cissna Park 31: At Dwight, the Trojans won another hard-fought Sangamon Valley matchup.

Dwight (5-5, 3-2), after trailing by three at halftime, held Cissna Park to five points in the third quarter to take a 22-20 lead. Post players Destine Drapeau (nine), Nellie Rieke (six) and Nora Anderson (two) combined for 17 points, while Kayla Kodat led the winners with a game-high 11 points. Kassy Kodat added four points, Nellie Rieke led the Trojans with 10 rebounds, Destiny Drapeau had seven rebounds, and Kassy Kodat pulled down six boards.

WEDNESDAY’S LATE RESULT

Roanoke-Benson 55, Seneca 46: At Roanoke-Benson, Brooklyn Giertz scored 17 points for the Irish, who suffered their first loss of the season.

Kennedy Hartwig had 15 points for Seneca, which fell to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the Tri-County Conconference.

GIRLS BOWLING

Plainfield Central 2,476, Plainfield East 2,313: At Plainfield Lanes, junior Hailey Bozych led East with a 616 series, including a high game of 244.

Joliet Central 2,186, West Aurora 1,811: At Crest Hill Lanes, the Steelwomen took all 10 points, as Christine Butler rolled a match-best 494 series and match-best 200 game.

Joliet Central also was led by Devon Thomas (471 series, 178 high game), Maddalynn Butler (452, 153) and Mia Cerrillo (404, 168).

BOYS BOWLING

Plainfield Central 3,045, Plainfield East 2,312: At Plainfield East, Central came out victorious against its rival, as Chris Beinvenu led the Wildcats by bowling a 634 series.

Right behind him was senior Ben Smith, who rolled a 618 and captain Mason Craig, who bowled a 617 series. Jack LaLonde (585), Jacob Chavez (543) and Tanner Rains (529) also contributed to the win, helping the Wildcats improve to 5-1.
