The Will County Board voted 12-8 on Thursday in favor of a controversial 6,100-acre solar project.
The biggest solar farm planned yet in Will County – and maybe the biggest in Illinois – will spread over 96 different properties in Manhattan, Green Garden and Wilton Townships.
Earthrise Energy, which is building the solar complex, plans to begin construction in the first quarter of 2027, a company spokesman set.
