DIXON – This is no April Fool’s joke: Leydig Center is set to reopen April 1.
Closed since March, and open only briefly in November, the popular resale store at 1107 Eyelet Road, normally open 3 days a week, will resume operations from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursdays only. Face masks and social distancing will be required, and hand sanitizer will be available. Fitting rooms and the restroom will remain closed.
The volunteer staff hopes to add a day, or days, sometime down the road, board President Susan Johnson said. For that, they need more volunteers.
“We’re excited about reopening, and we are anticipating that if we get more volunteers, we can expand, not only the hours of operation, but also the days that we are going to be open,” Johnson said. “We know it’s vital people that are working get out there on Saturdays, but at the present time, we just do not have the work force of volunteers that are able to put in both days, either because of their age or commitments to other things.
“We need volunteers to be able to expand those days and hours.”
Leydig has about 35 active volunteers; Johnson hopes to double that number to get up to full speed.
Baggers and cashiers and volunteers in the clothing and sports departments are especially needed. Call Johnson at 815-994-2137 for more information.
Donations, preferably in bags and boxes, may be dropped off only from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursdays.
Money raised at the massive thrift store is divvied up among many local nonprofits; the center has distributed well over $2 million over the years.
