Rock Falls senior Matthew Marcum entered Saturday's finals in the 300-meter hurdles at the Class 2A IHSA State Track & Field Championships with the fastest time, and he ran even faster in the finals on his way to winning the state title.
The IHSA Boys Track & Field State Championships continued Friday at O’Brien Field with the Class 2A prelims, where Dixon, Sterling and Rock Falls athletes qualified for the finals in five of the nine events in which they competed.
For a handful of Sauk Valley area boys track & field athletes, the dream of winning a state title continued Thursday in the IHSA Class 1A State Track & Field prelims at O’Brien Field in Charleston. Four individuals and two relay teams advanced to Saturday’s finals.
Oregon's Daniel Dominguez and Kenrick Oriyavong both qualified for state in two events at Friday's Class 1A Oregon Sectional, while Forreston-Polo's Matthew Beltran will also compete in two events at state. His Cardinals' teammate Johnny Kobler also qualified for state.
Out of the eight Sauk Valley-area boys track and field teams that competed at the Class 1A Erie Sectional at Wayne Hein Field on Thursday, seven will have a representative at the IHSA Boys State Track & Field championships in Charleston next week.
Burlington Central, Kaneland, Princeton and Sycamore took the top four sports on Wednesday at the Class 2A Rochelle Boys Track and Field Sectional, while Sauk Valley athletes qualified for state in eight events.
