Rural Oregon woman critically injured by semi truck while crossing Illinois 2

Ogle County Sheriff Brian Van Vickle along with his deputies along with Illinois State Troopers perform an accident reconstruction in the 4400 block of Illinois Route 2 on Wednesday after Patricia A. Jones, 86, was struck by a semi-truck while crossing the state highway near her home. Jones was airlifted to a Rockford Hospital and the road remained closed for 2 hours while the investigation was performed.

OREGON - A rural Oregon woman was critically injured Wednesday afternoon when she was struck by a semi truck and trailer while crossing Illinois Route 2.

Patricia A. Jones, 86 of Oregon, was walking across the state highway from east to west at 3:32 p.m. near her home at 4475 S. Illinois Route 2, when she was struck by a northbound semi, Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle said in a press release.

Jones was flown by React Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Rockford for treatment of serious injuries. As of Thursday afternoon, Jones was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the semi-truck and trailer, Eric H. Rivera, 61 of Lehigh Acres, Florida, was not injured.

The road remained closed for 2 hours as police and accident reconstructionists remained at the scene, between Penn Corner Road and the south parking lot for Castle Rock State Park.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Oregon Fire Department, Oregon Ambulance, Oregon Police Department and the Illinois State Police.

The accident remains under investigation.
