Caring for the Whole Child

Change is inevitable. If 2020 is any indication, it can also be rapid.

In just the past five months, we have all had to significantly alter the way we live our everyday lives, conduct business, and go to school.

Because of the quick and challenging pivots to new ways of teaching and learning, teachers and students alike are having to adjust and cope with new situations which can have a strong effect on their social and emotional senses. Now, a well-rounded scope of inspiring, trusting methods of learning have become more important than ever.

This is just part of the reason why at Immanuel Lutheran we believe in the approach of caring for the whole child.

Essentially, what this idea does is to help and encourage each student to learn and grow in every possible area of their education and wellbeing. Teachers employ emotional and social learning tactics to help prepare the students for the best outcomes in their schoolwork and social activities.

The main goal of whole child caring is to positively contribute to each student’s overall development.

With this goal in mind, teachers will encourage students’ creativity, confidence, and help them develop healthy habits. When a student feels safe, encouraged, supported, and challenged in positive ways, the ability to learn and grow is maximized.

These are just some ways in which we take care to apply a whole child approach with every student as they learn and develop throughout the school year. For any questions and other helpful information, visit our website or call 815-459-1444.
