‘Serious traffic crash’ near Marengo leads to road closure Wednesday

Route 23 was closed in both directions at River Road near Marengo following a “serious traffic crash” Wednesday, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said.

The road is closed from Collins Road and 8th Avenue, according to a Nixle alert issued shortly after 5 p.m. A detour will be required until further notice.

The closure was expected to last several hours, the sheriff’s office said on Twitter.

Lt. Joe Taylor of the Marengo Fire Protection District said crews were dispatched to the scene at 4:39 p.m.

One person was taken to the hospital in stable condition, he said.

Woodstock and Huntley first responders assisted, Taylor said.
