Woodstock man accused of Crystal Lake home invasion, threatening resident with a crowbar

Joseph Dean Gibson

A Woodstock man has been accused of entering a Crystal Lake home and threatening the woman who lived there with a crowbar.

Joseph Dean Gibson, 29, of the 11800 block of Lucas Road, was charged with home invasion with a dangerous weapon, residential burglary, criminal trespass to a residence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal damage to property, according to the criminal complaint filed in McHenry County.

Gibson is accused of entering a home in the 700 block of Silk Oak Lane, Crystal Lake, about 2 a.m. Thursday, knowing the resident was home, according to the complaint. He was armed with a crowbar and “threatened to smash [her] skull in,” according to the complaint.

The most serious charge filed against Gibson – home invasion with a dangerous weapon – is a Class X felony, which typically carry a sentence of six to 30 years.

Gibson remained at the McHenry County Jail as of Monday afternoon, according to the jail log.

McHenry County Judge Michael Coppedge denied Monday a request to reduce the bond from $150,000, court records show. Gibson would need to post $15,000 in order to be released.

An attempt to reach the McHenry County Public Defender’s Office, which is representing Gibson, was unsuccessful.
