Hotel guest injured during fire Wednesday morning in Crystal Lake

A hotel guest was taken to the hospital following a fire early Wednesday at the the Country Inn and Suites Hotel in Crystal Lake, the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department said.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded to an activated fire alarm at 3:57 a.m. at the hotel, located at 600 Tracy Trail, according to a news release. The hotel manager also reported smelling smoke and called 911.

Crystal Lake police officers arrived first and found an unconscious person in the room where the fire originated, according to the release. The person was taken to an area hospital for evaluation of injuries related to smoke inhalation.

Two officers also inhaled smoke during the rescue and were treated and released at the scene, according to the release.

The building’s sprinkler and fire alarm systems had activated, which contributed to saving the life of the room’s occupant, the department said.

The origin of the fire appears to be the mattress and was unknown how the fire started, according to the release. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department fire investigators.

Damage to the room and contents is estimated at $25,000, the department said. The hotel remains open while repairs are being made.

No one else was injured.
