High school sports roundup for Wednesday, Nov. 24

Marian Central coasted to a 78-43 win over Woodstock at the Hoops for Healing Tournament on Wednesday in Woodstock.

Christian Bentacur led all scorers with 21 points in the win and Cale McThenia was just behind him with 20.

Caden Ogle and Spencer Cullum shared the scoring lead for the Streaks with 10 points apiece.

Prairie Ridge 44, Woodstock North 37: At Woodstock, the Wolves held on for a Hoops for Healing Tournament win over the Thunder.

Mason Loucks led PR with 10 points in the victory. Alex Ortiz led all scorers with 12 points for North.

Huntley 51, Geneva 39: At Richmond, Ben Ahmer the Red Raiders with 19 points in a Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton Thanksgiving Tournament win.

Aiden Wieczorek added 13 points in the victory.

Crystal Lake South 69, McHenry 35: At Richmond, Isaiah Kirkeeng led the Gators with a 30-point, 13-rebound double-double at the Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton Thanksgiving Tournament.

Arnav Jain added 17 points and Cooper LePage had 10 assists, seven rebounds and five steals.

Wauconda 73, Richmond-Burton 36: At Richmond, the Rockets fell behind early and never made up much ground in a Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton Thanksgiving Tournament loss.

Maddox Meyer had eight points for R-B.

Johnsburg 81, Grayslake North 68: At Richmond, the Skyhawks picked up a Johnsburg/Richmond-Burton Thanksgiving Tournament win.

Tuesday’s late results

Kaneland 47, Woodstock North 41: At Woodstock, Rex White had 14 points for the Thunder in the loss to the Knights at the Woodstock Hoops for Healing Tournament. Cesar Ortiz had 10 points, and Gabe Filetti tossed in nine for North (0-1).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Fremd 47, Cary-Grove 33: At Cary, the Trojans struggled to score in a home loss.

Emily Lukowski led C-G (3-2) with 13 points.

Tuesday’s late results

Huntley 68, St. Viator 59: At Carpentersville, Jessie Ozzauto and Jori Heard both had career highs in points for the Red Raiders, who finished 3-1 at the D-C Thanksgiving Tournament.

Ozzauto poured in 24 points and three 3s, including a half-court shot at the first-quarter buzzer, and Heard (12 rebounds) added 18 points and sank 6 of 7 free throws. Morgan McCaughn tallied 14 points to give the Raiders three scorers in double figures.

South Elgin 51, Dundee-Crown 38: At Carpentersville, Kendall Brents had 13 points to lead the Chargers in a loss to the Storm in their last game of the D-C Thanksgiving Tournament. South Elgin finished 4-0 and earned the tournament title.

Kate Raby added 10 points for D-C (1-3).

Libertyville 56, Crystal Lake Central 25: At Libertyville, the Tigers fell to 0-3 with a loss to the Wildcats in the the Buffalo Grove Bison Classic. Paige Keller had eight points to lead Central.

WRESTLING

Crystal Lake South 60, Johnsburg 15: At Crystal Lake, the Gators started the season with a dual victory over the Skyhawks.

Though the score is decidedly one-sided in CLS’s favor, all but one of their wins came via forfeit — Andy Burburijia’s pin of Jake Gebis at 285 pounds.

Johnsburg had a pair of wins from Kirk Logan at 152 (fall, 25 seconds) and Kyle Raster at 182 (dec. 5-2).

Crystal Lake South 59, Richmond-Burton 16: At Crystal Lake, CLS picked up its second dual victory of the day by taking down the Rockets.

Josh Glover (113), Amador Castro (120), Connor Hamm (145) Lukas Bjork (152) and Shane Moran (182) each earned wins for the Gators.

Kyle Gunderson (106), Dane Sorensen (126) and Brody Rudkin (132) had wins for R-B.
