Crystal Lake Central Tigers

Junior guard Davion Lewis hit a 3-pointer off an out-of-bounds play with 1.3 seconds left to give Crystal Lake Central (2-6, 2-6) a 38-36 win over the Cary-Grove (6-2, 5-2) in their Fox Valley Conference game Wednesday in Cary.

Central ended a five-game losing streak with the victory. Lewis’ game-winner accounted for his only points of the game.

Connor Bartesch led Central with 11 points, and Ryan Van Witzenburg added nine.

Evan Berghoff led the Trojans with 11 points. Mike Clarke and Drew Talkington scored 10 each.

Jacobs 44, Crystal Lake South 36: At Crystal Lake, the Golden Eagles picked up a win in hostile territory by taking down the Gators.

James Hayes and Robert Pennel shared the scoring lead for Jacobs with 11 points apiece, while Zach Leahy was just behind them with 10.

Gators sophomore Cooper LePage turned in a game-high 13 points in the loss.

Richmond-Burton 45, Westlake Christian 33: At Volo Sportsplex, Jacob Huber tossed in 16 points to lead the Rockets (9-2) in their nonconference victory over the Eagles.

Blake Volkmar scored 10 for R-B, while Jake Barthel and T.J. Turner each added seven.

Dundee-Crown 45, Hampshire 36: At Hampshire, the Chargers were able to take one from the Whip-Purs on their own home floor.

Terrell Powell provided a spark for D-C, scoring 11 of his team-high 13 points in the first half, while Kennon Cook added 11 points in the win.

For the Whips, Zach Bailey scored a game-high 15 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Burlington Central 58, McHenry 44: At McHenry, the Rockets shot past the Warriors to snatch a victory on the road.

Elana Wells did the bulk of the heavy lifting for Burlington Central, scoring a game-high 20 and points and dishing out five assists in the win, while Taylor Charles pitched in with nine points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks.

Ashley Wachter had a nice day for McHenry, picking up 17 points in spite of the defeat.

Huntley 47, Prairie Ridge 33: At Huntley, the Red Raiders shut down Prairie Ridge’s offense and coasted to a solid win at home.

Kamsi Nwogu led Huntley (7-2, 6-1) with 10 points.

Nazareth 56, Marian Central 21: At La Grange Park, Nichole Santopadre led the Hurricanes with five points, and Jenna Golembiewski grabbed five rebounds in their East Suburban Catholic Conference loss to the Roadrunners.

Westlake Christian 43, Richmond-Burton 38: At Richmond, Rachel Baker and Jesse Klicker scored 11 points each, but it wasn’t quite enough for the Rockets.

Richmond-Burton fell to 3-7 with the loss.

BOYS BOWLING

Marengo 3,384, Sycamore 3,383: At Glo Bowl in Marengo, a clutch, 10th-frame strike by Tim Scholl earned a one-pin victory for Marengo.

Chase Vogt put together the best series for Marengo with a 617, which was highlighted by a 237 in Game 1. Kyle Peters wasn’t far behind with a 597 series, Tommy Lulinski ended the day at 579, and Scholl’s final strike put him at 579.

Huntley 3,172, South Elgin 2,940: At Bowl-Hi in Huntley, the Red Raiders had four bowlers turn in series scores above 600 in a victory over South Elgin.

Sean Myhre led Huntley with a 660 series and a high game of 257, while Nicholas Zummo (639), Jerik Alcasid (623) and Joshua Waters (603) joined him in taking down the Athletics.

GIRLS BOWLING

Sycamore 2,274, Marengo 2,102: At Mardi Gras Lanes in DeKalb, Grace Wzeinetk was top scorer for Marengo in the loss with a team-high 518 series.

Just behind her was teammate Bethany Christiansen, who finished her afternoon with a 512.

BOYS SWIMMING

Huntley 199, Woodstock North co-op 60: At Woodstock North, Huntley took the top spot in all but two varsity events to earn a comfortable win over the Thunder.

Dominic Siwiec (2:09.49) took first in the 200 individual medley, Michael Boelens (23.18 seconds) won the 50 freestyle, Luke Vandy (54.31) took the 100 butterfly, Ben Rocks (49.15) was first in the 100 freestyle, Luke Hackemack (5:25.04) won the 500 freestyle and Kaeper Cebula (1:01.88) was tops in the 100 breaststroke.

The Red Raiders also picked up wins in each of the three relay events.

The Thunders’ two victories came from the afternoon’s only double-winner. Quinton Cynor picked up wins for Woodstock North in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke with times of 1:38.30 and 50.66, respectively.

Cary-Grove co-op 103, Jacobs co-op 66: At Sage YMCA in Crystal Lake, Drew Watson picked up a pair of wins to spearhead the Trojans’ assault in a win over the Golden Eagles.

Watson took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.51) and the 500 freestyle (5:08.50). The freshman also took part in two first-place relay teams for the Trojans as he swam in the 200 medley relay with Ben Fejer, Andrew Marks and Hunter Pearson (1:46.69) and the 400 freestyle relay with Fejer, Pearson and Danial Sanahursky.
