Crystal Lake man cited for alleged DUI in crash, police say

A Crystal Lake man has been cited for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol during a crash early Friday in which he was seriously injured.

Fire The Crystal Lake Fire/Rescue Department said the driver was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and was the only person inside the vehicle.

Crystal Lake Police Department Deputy Chief Rick Neumann said about 1 a.m. Friday, a gray SUV was heading north on Abbington Drive and turned east on Surrey Lane. The SUV then left the roadway and collided with a tree, Neumann said.

The fire department had said the driver suffered critical injuries. The police described the injuries as “non-life-threatening injuries.”

The driver, identified as as Aidan Elizarraraz, 21, was cited for driving under the influence of alcohol and released, Neumann said. The Crystal Lake Police Department is continuing to investigate the crash, Neumann said.
