Gas leak in Huntley

emergency lights

Huntley officials are asking the public to avoid the area of Reed Road and Wellington Drive because of a gas leak.

Huntley police posted on Facebook just before 1:45 p.m. Monday asking drivers to use caution when driving through the area or use alternate routes.

Huntley Police Deputy Chief Kevin Keane said a contractor hit a gas line; the fire department went out and determined it was a Nicor issue. Keane said around 4 p.m. Monday the utility company was on scene working. He said it was unknown how long Nicor would be out there but didn’t think it would be more than a couple hours.

Keane said the fire department said the scene was safe for residents and drivers on Reed Road. The police department helped with traffic control but was off scene, Keane said.

Police said they would give an update when the situation has resolved.
