Police activity near Crystal Lake was for domestic dispute, sheriff’s office says

Police siren/emergency lights

A heavy police presence reported late Tuesday near Crystal Lake was the result of a domestic dispute.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday afternoon that personnel were called about 8 p.m. the night before to the 5000 block of Terra Cotta Road near Nunda Trail for “two household members who had been in a physical altercation.”

Both people were taken to the hospital.

Authorities had issued an alert later Tuesday saying that there was no threat to the public but asking people to avoid the area until further notice. The sheriff’s office said it continues to investigate.

Sheriff’s office jail records indicate that a 52-year-old man with an address on that block was taken into McHenry County jail custody about 4 a.m. Wednesday, but no charges had been listed against the man as of Wednesday evening.
