The city of Peru is making a deal with its residents in an effort to provide more benches around the community.
Commemorative benches will be available to purchase through the city for $1,000. A plaque will be on the bench, dedicating it in memory or in honor of the purchaser’s choice.
The total cost of the bench is $1,360, but the city will pick up the $360 balance.
Public Services Manager Jeff King said the city is getting a good deal “on a nice bench” and helping residents commemorate loved ones at the same time.
Mayor Ken Kolowski said he purchased the first bench in memory of Donald B. Kolowski. The bench is placed in front of Peru City Hall, 1901 Fourth St., for anyone who wants to view what they look like.
Anyone interested in purchasing a bench can call 815-223-0061.
