A Peru homeowner reported water in their basement, and the suspected cause was a diaper flushed down a toilet.
Diapers have been found in the city’s sewer system. Now, Peru officials are warning residents not to flush anything except toilet paper down their toilets. City officials made a post on their Facebook page Wednesday morning.
Flushing anything except toilet paper can result in blockages and damage to sewer service lines and city sewer systems.
Flushing anything but toilet paper can cause: toilet overflows, clogging of service lines, expensive plumbing repairs, clogged pumps and clogging of city pumps, main sewer lines and damage to city sewer systems.
Don’t flush diapers, baby wipes, “flushable” wipes, cleaning wipes, paper towels, makeup removal pads, feminine hygiene products, kitty litter, dental floss, cotton balls, hazardous waste, grease, fats, oils, cigarettes, motor oil, paint, oil, chemicals, latex gloves, syringes, medications, hair, bandages, rags, clothing or mops.
