The Peru Elementary School District will return to a regular full day in-person learning schedule Monday through Friday for all students who wish to do so beginning March 15.
The option for students to remain fully remote still will be available.
“This decision may come as a surprise given our recent announcement regarding a switch to an AM/PM schedule,” Peru Elementary Superintendent Jamie Craven said in a letter to the district. “After reflecting upon the disruption the adjusted schedule would create for many families, and now considering current positivity rates and trending data, we feel our district must take this opportunity to get our students back to full day in-person learning. Given this decision, we will continue with our blended learning A/B schedule until March 15.”
With increased class sizes, Craven said the district can no longer guarantee students will always be a full 6 feet apart, but educators will do their best to maintain social distancing.
The district will continue using personal protective equipment and sanitizing and cleaning the buildings.
“We all know of other districts who have been in person for all or most of the year, and they have been making it work; therefore, we can as well,” Craven said.
Parents who indicated on the AM/PM registration survey form that their children will be in-person learning, they will remain on the in-person roster for March 15. For those parents who wish to change the learning option of their child, contact the principal at 815-223-1111 (ext. 3 Northview, ext. 4 Parkside) by March 1.
“We knew this was going to be a tough journey, and I hope this transition proves to bring us some semblance of normalcy,” Craven said.
