Roundup: L-P, St. Bede girls bowling teams win invitationals

Maria Pawlak bowled a 1,114 six-game series Saturday to lead the La Salle-Peru girls bowling team to the title at the Oregon Hawk Invite at Plum Hollow Family Center in Dixon.

The Cavaliers racked up 5,265 pins.

Makenzie Hamilton added a 1,104 series for L-P.

Hall’s Sarah Beier won the individual title as she rolled a 1,204 series.

In the boys tournament, David Lawrence rolled a 1,201 six-game series to help the Cavs to a third-place finish.

Chance Hank added a 1,194 series for the Cavaliers, who racked up 5,517 pins to finish behind Sycamore 5,659 and Streator 5,606. Hall (3,403) placed 12th among the 12 teams.

Lawrence placed fourth individually, while Hank took seventh.

At Kewanee

Three St. Bede girls bowlers placed in the top 10 Saturday to lead the Bruins to the title at the Kewanee Invitational.

St. Bede racked up 4,825 pins to beat second-place United Township (4,759). Mendota (1,847) placed sixth among the six teams.

St. Bede’s Veronica Martin rolled a 1,126 six-game series to place third, while Aubree Acuncius (1,049) finished sixth and Paige Kraml (972) took eighth.

WRESTLING

At Sterling

Putnam County-Hall senior Connor Brooker recorded a pair of pins Saturday to win the 170-pound bracket at the Sterling Invitational.

Brooker pinned Dixon’s Steven Kitzman in 3:12 and won by fall in 2:52 over Oak Lawn’s Hani Odeh in the championship.

PC-Hall’s John Davis placed second at 285, while teammate Denzel Sobin finished fifth at 160.

At Rockford

La Salle-Peru’s Reegan Kellett and Connor Sines each placed fourth in their brackets at the Rockford East Giardini Invitational on Saturday.

The Cavaliers placed 16th as a team.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

IVCC 48, South Suburban 41

Fieldcrest graduate Alyx Carls and Maddie Grandsart each scored 10 points Saturday to help the Eagles to a non-conference victory in Oglesby.

Princeton alumnae Taylor Quiram added nine points for IVCC (2-11), which outscored the Bulldogs 33-18 in the second half.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Earlville 61, Yorkville Christian 35 Elizabeth Browder had a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds Saturday to lead the Red Raiders to a non-conference victory in Earlville.

Madyson Olson scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds for Earlville, while Brooklyn Guelde added nine points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists.

Serena 37, Henry-Senachwine/Lowpoint-Washburn 29

Tandyn VanEtten scored 10 points Saturday as the Mallards came up short in a non-conference game in Henry.

Nakeita Kessling added nine points for Henry. MEN’S BASKETBALL

South Suburban 74, IVCC 61

Reggie Loury scored 19 points Saturday as the Eagles lost to the Bulldogs, who are ranked No. 2 in the nation, in a non-conference game in Oglesby.

A.J. Lee added 18 points for IVCC (4-7).
