Roundup: Fieldcrest’s Mason Stoeger wins regional title

Fieldcrest senior Mason Stoeger ran a 15:04 on Saturday to win the individual title at the Class 1A Eureka Regional.

Normal U-High’s Sachit Muduli placed second in 15:25.7.

Stoeger’s performance helped the Knights to tie for seventh-place and the final team sectional berth.

Pacey Mangan (17:41), Caleb Krischel (17:43), Michael Scott (17:47) and Jacob Torres (18:46) all ran career bests to help the Knights advance.

In the girls race, Claire Phillips ran a career best 21:22 as Fieldcreset wrapped up its season with a 10th-place finish.

MEN’S SOCCER

Harper 4, IVCC 2

The Eagles led by a goal at halftime but gave up three goals in the second half as they fell in the NJCAA Division III Region IV championship game Saturday at the L-P Sports Complex in La Salle.

Pumi Maphumulo scored two goals in the first half as IVCC took a 2-1 halftime lead.

Bayron Cruz and Carlos Sousa each had an assist for the Eagles, while Joel Fiegeuroa made six saves.

The Eagles (13-7) will play in the district tournament on Friday against three-time defending national champion Richland.

GIRLS SWIMMING

At Byron

Peyton Heagy won an individual event and had a pair of second-place finishes Saturday to help the La Salle-Peru co-op to second place at the Northern Illinois Independent Invite.

Byron won with 368 points and the Cavaliers were second with 241.

Heagy won the 100-yard freestyle in 54.4 seconds and swam to second in the 50 freestyle in 25.03 seconds.

She teamed with Addy Nance, Paige Marks and Kailey Goetsch to place second in the 200 medley relay in 2:08.7.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

IVCC def. South Suburban 25-20, 25-21, 26-24

La Salle-Peru graduate Paige Champlin had 27 assists and 13 digs Saturday to help the Eagles to a non-conference victory in Oglesby.

Emma Thomas added 15 digs, eight kills and an ace for IVCC (5-20), which won back-to-back games for the first time this season.
