DANVILLE - The Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp had to settle for a twin-bill split with the host Danville Dans on Friday in Danville, taking the opener 4-3 but surrendering three runs in the sixth inning of the nightcap to fall 3-2 in a Prospect League doubleheader.

Connor Sullivan (3 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 3 K0 and reliever Ryan Palmblad (3 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 K) split the mound work in the opener, backed by first baseman Danny Wuestenfeld’s three-run home run in the sixth. Wuestenfeld also singled, with Colton Coca driving home the Pistol Shrimp’s other run.

The Shrimp then took a one-run lead into the bottom of the sixth of the nightcap on a Damen Castillo solo homer, but surrendered three in the bottom of the sixth to fall. Coca provided two more hits, while Ryan Eiermann (5 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 10 K) took a shutout into the sixth but suffered the hard-luck loss after the visitors’ seventh-inning rally fell short.

Illinois Valley has four regular-season games remaining, beginning Saturday night home at Veterans Park in Peru against Clinton.
