Utica roundabout delayed slightly

Mayor says utilities work will proceed as scheduled

The roundabout in Utica is now a month behind schedule, but motorists are advised to watch for work this spring as the village moves utilities to prepare for construction.

Mayor David Stewart said Friday he was alerted that the Illinois Department of Transportation has pushed back bidding for the traffic circle at U.S. 6 and Route 178 until April 23. Construction loosely is targeted for July. Starved Rock Media first reported the delay, citing a last-minute design issue.

Stewart said the village still is required to move its utilities this spring and accordingly advised motorists to watch for workers completing preparatory work at the four corners.

“As far as I’m aware, [Utica’s] timeline has not changed,” Stewart said. “Our plan is to still go out for bid and get those utilities moved.”
