Cast announced for Indian Valley Theatre’s ‘Hansel and Gretel’

Ottawa’s Leifheit will direct performance

Indian Valley Theatre announced the cast for their next production, “Hansel and Gretel,” adapted by Vera Morris from the classic story by The Brothers Grimm and published by Pioneer Drama.

The director is Karen Leifheit of Ottawa; producer is Kathie Hart of Leland and stage manager is Jen Ketchum of Sandwich.

In this version, “Hansel and Gretel are sent into the woods where they encounter some marvelous folks — an arrogant troll, who fiercely guards his little wooden bridge; a talking owl; two hobgoblins in the service of the nasty (and hilarious) witch and a variety of other peculiar characters.”

The cast has started rehearsing and consists of Hansel: Josh Hane of Hinckley; Gretel: Charlotte Wheatley of Maple Park; Witch: Kathy Hepner of Streator; Susie: Abigail Munar of Plano; Johanna: Madelyn Zradicka of Millington; Frack: Michele Wade of Earlville; Dew Princess: Adeline Galles of Hinckley; Katrina: Ava Artwohl of Somonauk; Gingerbread cookie: Beatrice Wood of Newark; Sandwich cast members are: Frederick: Max LaBolle, Frick: Aleksandra Savage, Father: Matthew Savage, Troll: Becky LaBolle, Sandman: Richard Brousell, Caspar: Isaac Brunoehler, GINGERBREAD COOKIE: Gingerbread cookie: Avah Sparks; from Genoa: Owl: Jessica Sus and Echo: Stephanie Sus; and cast from Sheridan are: Mother: Julie Swanson Haggard, Lydia: Sarah Safranek, and Gingerbread cookie: Deacon Haggard.

IVT’s “Hansel and Gretel” is a family-friendly show with a positive message. Performances will be 7 p.m. Friday, March 18; 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, March 19, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20, the historic Sandwich Opera House, 140 E. Railroad St.
