Firefighters rescue victim from Ottawa house fire, individual taken to hospital

Firefighters from Ottawa, Naplate, Wallace, Marseilles responded to blaze

A victim was taken to OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center after they were treated on the scene of a fire Wednesday night at 721 Mulberry St. in Ottawa.

A victim was taken to OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center after they were treated on the scene of a fire Wednesday night at 721 Mulberry St. in Ottawa.

Firefighters found the victim unresponsive, but breathing, about 10 feet from the home’s exit and removed them from the house to safety.

Firefighters were called to the home just before 6 p.m. Wednesday and found the fire in the corner of the first floor, visible through a window. Crews extinguished the fire.

Fire was found in the attic area at the top of the stairs into the second floor and it was extinguished.

Firefighters from Ottawa, Wallace, Naplate and Marseilles assisted in the response. Ameren and Nicor also were called to the scene.

The victim, who was found and treated, was the lone person in the home at the time after a search was conducted.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal was called for investigation.
