Fireworks will light up Newark sky Saturday

Village set to celebrate its Winter Festival

Who says fireworks are a summer thing?

Newark plans to have a fireworks display beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, from the firehouse, 101 E. Main St. A Lighted Fire Truck Parade will commence immediately after the fireworks. A rain date is set for Sunday, Dec. 5, in the event of inclement weather.

The fireworks and parade are part of a full day of Winter Festival activities.

Activities also include a bounce house on the park’s basketball courts (4:30 to 6:30 p.m.); a bake sale, soup supper and take home crafts at Newark Lutheran Church, 101 E. Liberty St.; a visit from Santa at the firehouse (5 to 6:30 p.m.); a performance by the Newark Community High School band at the fire house (5 to 6:30 p.m.); a children’s grab and go holiday craft, including build your own reindeer or owl fundraiser, at Charles B. Phillips Library, 6 N. Jackson St. (5 to 6:45 p.m.); hot chocolate and cookies at the Fern Dell Museum, 9 E. Front St. (5 to 7 p.m.); s’mores in the park (5 to 7 p.m.); the Millbrook Junior High fundraiser and bake sale, as well as apple cider, at the fire house.

The card prizes drawing will be at 6:45 p.m. at the firehouse meeting room. You must be present to win. Cards can be picked up at participating booths and businesses and returned to the firehouse prior to 6:30 p.m.

The Newark FFA will be taking poinsettia orders throughout the day. The Cub Scout Pack 342 and Boy Scout Troop 42 will be selling holiday wreaths.
