COVID-19 numbers trending the right way at Ottawa High

23 members of school community in quarantine

Ottawa High School’s COVID-19 numbers are trending in the right direction recently, its superintendent said.

Superintendent Michael Cushing said 23 members of the school community (meaning students and staff) are in some form of quarantine at this point. The high school had more than 40 people in quarantine during one stretch of time.

Additionally, the superintendent shared good news about the district’s budget.

Ottawa High School’s tentative budget for fiscal year 2022 has a projected surplus of $1.3 million, up from the $900,000 it saw last year.

The O&M fund and transportation fund also are projecting at a surplus of $453,000 and $51,943, respectively.

“These numbers are trending in a very positive direction and significantly better than they were last year, the previous year and certainly three, four or five years ago,” Cushing said.

Cushing said the budget for schools is typically approved a quarter of the way through the fiscal year, something that’s exclusive to education and things can always change.
