6-year-old dies following crash in Gardner

Coroner says family was not from the area

A six-year-old girl died following a single-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon in Gardner.

Just before 1:30 p.m. Saturday, a vehicle driven by the child’s mother was northbound on the former Route 66 when she approached the stop sign intersecting with Route 53, said the Grundy County Coroner’s office. A preliminary investigation indicates the motorist lost control of the vehicle and rolled several times coming to a final rest in the grassy field adjacent to the Gardner American Legion.

The child, identified as Ryliegh Williams, was ejected from the vehicle and later transported to Morris Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Records indicate the family was not from the area, the coroner’s office said. Her hometown was not provided at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Grundy County Coroner’s Office and the Grundy County Sheriff’s department.
