Ottawa council reaches agreement with firefighters union

Contract extends through 2024

The Ottawa City Council approved an agreement Tuesday with the city’s firefighters union that extends through 2024.

Mayor Dan Aussem said the agreement allows for 3% pay increases for cost of living, and there were some language adjustments, but other than that, the contract won’t be much different from what’s been done in the past.

“One of the things that changed is the firefighters brought up that they do quite a bit of training, and the new guys don’t start off with much vacation time that they end up having to use for training,” Aussem said. “We ended up adding in some additional time for training.”
