State Street Laundromat is closing its doors at the end of the month after nearly 60 years in business, including 33 under current owners MaryAnn Marshall and her husband, Ed.

The Marshalls purchased the laundromat in 1988 and were Ottawa residents until they retired a few years ago and moved to Utica. They still have rental properties in town.
MaryAnn retired from the Ottawa DMV seven years ago and Ed retired from being a janitor at Ottawa High School.
“I’d like to thank all the customers we’ve had over the years,” MaryAnn said. “We’ve been able to make a lot of friends that way.”

The building was originally an automotive shop before it was purchased and converted into a laundromat by Clarence White in the 1960s.
“I’d like to have seen it continue as a laundromat,” MaryAnn said. “But it looks like it’s going to be an addition for the car detailing place.”
The building is being purchased by Ideal Amusements out of Dundee.
