Bear Necessities project moves from Harding to Serena

Next date for distribution is March 20

Serena United Methodist Church

The Bear Necessities project has been moved from the Methodist Church in Harding to the Serena United Methodist Church at 2259 E. U.S. 52 in Serena.

The next date for distribution of Bear Necessities items is 10 a.m. to noon March 20.

For those unfamiliar with the project, here’s how it works: People who have LINK cards will be furnished for free, with bags containing laundry detergent, dish detergent, bath soap, tooth paste, shampoo and toilet paper, and occasionally other personal hygiene items as they become available. (Cardholders may not use their cards to buy these items in stores.)

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic the Bear Necessities project has been a drive-thru event. Participants must present their LINK cards and an official form of photo ID such as a driver’s license to receive the free items.

Bear Necessities began in December 2016, and has continued nonstop since then, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers. It is conducted the third Saturday of every month.
