We’re hoping by spring we can have everybody back full-time, and this grant money is a godsend for us to be able to do that.
— Chris Bragg, Jobst Monuments and Gifts
CURE-ES grants procured through the city of Ottawa have been distributed to the tune of $714,750 total among 52 different businesses and organizations.
Char Bragg, who owns Jobst Monuments and Gifts, said the process was simple and the city was helpful in answering questions they might have had.
“It helps tremendously,” Bragg said. “We were closed down during our busiest time, so the loss was substantial, and now we can reopen but only until 2:30 p.m. We’re hoping by spring we can have everybody back full-time, and this grant money is a godsend for us to be able to do that.”
Leah Johnson, owner of Laurilea’s Unique Junk Boutique, said the grants are helpful because rent and utilities don’t stop just because a business is closed.
Laurilea’s was forced to shut down as well, leaving the business with a period where they were unable to make sales.
“Filling out the application was super simple,” Johnson said. “Our accountant helped us fill out the paperwork, and the city was good about making sure our information was correct.”
Bragg similarly was thankful for the city’s help, along with the people who keep them in mind and shop locally.
