The Ottawa City Council took a step Tuesday toward completely reconstructing Stevenson Road by approving an intergovernmental grant agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation after the project was approved for a $2.5 million grant.

Mayor Dan Aussem said this project will install storm drains and curbs along the road.

“We’ve been looking to do this for a number of years and we finally got the OK to move ahead on it,” Aussem said. “It’s going to be a lot nicer and help with the truck traffic.”

Aussem said construction on this project is slated for 2023.
