Heavy fog blamed for two-vehicle crash on Route 23 at Interstate 80 ramp in Ottawa

Passenger treated and released from Ottawa hospital

Emergency light

A passenger was treated and released from the hospital and both vehicles were towed following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday on Route 23 and the westbound Interstate 80 ramp in Ottawa.

According to Ottawa police, Carol J. Meyers, 79, of Utica, was traveling northbound on Columbus Street nearing the Interstate 80 westbound ramp 7:43 p.m. Tuesday, while Jessica L. Stafford, 41, of Marseilles, was traveling southbound on Columbus Street nearing the ramp.

According to police, both drivers had green lights, but Meyers didn’t have the green arrow. She turned left coming in front of Stafford, and the two vehicles collided. Meyers’ passenger side crashed with Stafford’s driver side quarter panel, according to the report.

Meyers told police she couldn’t see Stafford coming because of the heavy fog.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and a child passenger in Stafford’s vehicle was taken to OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, where they were treated and released.
