The Seneca boys basketball ran to a 20-6 first-quarter lead and shot 52% from the field for the game in a 58-40 Interstate Eight Conference win over visiting Lisle. The Fighting Irish were led by Eric Adkins [13 points], Peyton Schrag [12 points], and Jonah Hoelscher [10 points].

The Marquette girls hoops squad — ranked No. 4 in Class 1A — improved to 25-2 after a 50-38 Class 1A regional semifinal victory over LaMoille-Ohio at Granville. Cordy Murphy led the Lady Crusaders with 25 points and 10 rebounds.

The Sandwich boys basketball club led 19-5 after the opening quarter in a 48-29 I-8 triumph over host Coal City. Justin Wegener paced the Indians with 17 points with Ryan Valentine adding 11 points.

The Leland-Earlville topped Little Ten Conference foe and host Paw Paw, 63-51. The Panthers were led by Dalton Heath [17 points, nine rebounds], Reed Goodbred [15 points, nine rebounds], and Chris Collins [13 points].

The Ottawa boys swimming team defeated host Pontiac, 108-67. The Pirates received a pair of individual wins from Stephen Truchon and Adam Hines, while single victories were earned by Wyatt Mach and Kyle DaVault. The foursome of Truchon, Hines, Matt Jacobs, and John Schiffgens won the 200 medley and freestyle relays, with Trevor Buhr, Schiffgens, Alan Smith, and Jacobs winning the 400 freestyle relay.

The Somonauk girls basketball club made 56% of the field goal attempts in topping Serena 59-42 in the semifinals of its own Class 1A regional. The Lady Bobcats were paced by 12 points from Lauren Brummel, nine points each from Emily Paull and Jordan Smith, and eight points apiece from Audrey Weismiller [nine rebounds] and Allison Humes. The Lady Huskers were led by Jocelynn Castelli [15 points] and Jeri Brennan [eight points].

The Newark girls hoops squad led 31-11 at halftime in a 64-22 victory over Earlville-Leland in the second semifinal at Somonauk. Katie Larson led the Lady Norsemen with 13 points and seven rebounds with Taylor Krug adding 10 points, and Lauren Tollefson nine points. The Lady Red Raiders’ Morgan Musich scored 14 points.

The Earlville-Leland girls basketball team slipped past Indian Creek 62-58 in the semifinals of the Amboy Class A Regional. Chelsea Martin, Lindsay Norton, and Stephanie Benninger all netted 12 points for the Lady Red Raiders.

The Seneca girls hoops club won the Flanagan Class A Regional championship with a 60-48 victory over Marquette. The Lady Irish were led by 16 points from LeAnn Stahl, 14 points and 18 rebounds from Christen O’Malley, and 11 points from Janine Witte. The Lady Crusaders’ Katie Yedinak poured in 29 points which included five 3-pointers.

The Newark girls basketball squad won the program’s first regional title with a 53-49 win over Hinckley-Big Rock at Somonauk. Stephanie Scalf and Sally Keisler each posted 13 points for the Lady Norsemen.
