Ottawa girls hoops take victory in 2011 NIB 12 West contest at Streator

The Ottawa girls basketball team used a 13-0 run to end the first half to help propel them to a 63-24 Northern Illinois Big 12 West Division victory over host Streator. The Lady Pirates were led by a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double from Allie Miceli, with Kara Kistenfeger adding 11 points and Kelcie Rombach eight points and three steals. The Lady Bulldogs were paced by 12 points from Liz Liptak and six points and 13 rebounds from Morgan Sharisky.

The Streator wrestling team fell to Pontiac 48-24 but defeated host Joliet Catholic 48-30 in a triangular. Cristian Martinez stayed undefeated on the season at 119 pounds with a pair of triumphs, Edgar Huichapa [152] recorded two pins, and Jeff Lamango [125], Joe Leskanich [145], and Isaias Macias each posted a win via pin.

The Streator boys basketball club trailed host Putnam County by five at halftime but used a 23-12 third-quarter advantage to earn a 60-51 win. Troy Galyen poured in a career-high 27 points for the Bulldogs while Dave Nawara posted 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The Serena boys hoops squad picked up a 65-49 road victory over Tonica. Ron Rabe paced the Huskers with 15 points, with Denny Johnson and Wayne Westvig netting 12 points each.
