Seneca diamond teams best WFC; Streator girls soccer wins

At Dwight, the Marquette baseball team moved to 7-0 on the season behind a three-pitcher no-hitter in a 6-0 victory over Dwight on the road Tuesday afternoon.

Winning pitcher Aiden Thompson went the first five innings, yielding no walks while striking out seven, followed by Logan Nelson (2 K, 1 BB) and Carson Zellers (3 K, 1 BB) for one inning each to complete MA’s gem.

The Crusaders, who got single runs in the third and fifth innings and four in the sixth, were led by Sam Mitre with three hits, one a double with one RBI, and two hits and an RBI each from Tom Durdan and Brady Ewers. Beau Ewers had a single and RBI, and Nelson an RBI for the winners, who were helped by six Dwight errors.

Seneca 9, Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell 0: At rural Streator, the Irish scored three runs in the second, third and fourth innings and used the three-hit pitching of Matt Cruise (4 IP, 2 H 9 K, 1 BB) and Brady Barla (2 IP, 1 H, 4 K, 1 BB) to nail down the win.

Dalton DeGrush (2B, 2 RBI), Aiden Wood (2 RBI), Tyler Sulzberger (RBI), Austin Aldridge and Casey Clennon each collected two of Seneca’s 13 hits on the day.

Somonauk 11, Plano 1: At Somonauk, Broc Slais scattered five hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out 10 without a walk to pick up the five-inning win, with relief help from Brendan Roberts.

Four runs in the home first were all the Bobcats (3-1) needed, with Jaylen Dion driving in four runs, Slais two and Noah Brandt and Roberts (2 1B, 3 R) driving in one each.

SOFTBALL

Marquette 8, Dwight 5: At Dwight, the Crusaders broke open a 4-4 game with four runs in the top of the seventh to earn the Tri-County Conference win.

Kaylee Killelea (7 IP, 10 K, 4 BB) got the victory in the circle and added two hits to her own cause. Abbey Thumm (2B) and Avery Durdan led the way with three hits each, while Eva McCallum (3 RBI), Makayla Backos and Izzy Garkey each slammed two hits for the Cru.

GIRLS SOCCER

Streator 2, Rochelle 0: At Rochelle, goals by Zuzu Gonzales and Anna Jaworski and 14 saves from Monsy Gonzalez were enough to subdue the Hubs in the road victory.
