Ottawa High kicks off Fine Arts Festival on Thursday

Event concludes with The Finest of the Fine Arts on Friday

Ottawa High School Fine Arts Club

Ottawa High School’s 48th annual Fine Arts Festival begins Thursday, March 17, kicking off at the beginning of school and ending with The Finest of the Fine Arts at 7 p.m. Friday.

Activities on display include art, music, film, drama, speech, interpretive reading, dance, photography, creative writing, comedy, among other activities, with the intention of broadening, deepening and sharpening students’ awareness of school programs.

The Thursday first hour event presented by the OHS Fine Arts Club will present a satirical take on their lives at Ottawa High School and the world around them, followed by a performance from Angie K, a country artist that quit her job at a salvage yard five years ago to take a contract as a full-time musician on cruise ships. Angie has since played more than 1,000 live shows and has since been named as one of Rolling Stone Country’s “artists you need to know.”

After that, the talent portion will start and students will have the opportunity to show their skills.

Other performances beyond the students include Gen FuZe, a band that aims to capture classics such as Led Zeppelin, Heart and Styx and The Student Body, another cover band that plays high-energy party anthems.

Speakers include Terrance Talley, a speaker who aims to create a positive impact on students everywhere, and Wes Mathison, a mentalist and magician based out of Chicago.

Ottawa High graduate Karly Swords also will perform her 40-minute one woman show as Calamity Jane that she writes, directs and acts by herself.

The school day will end with the faculty and staff showcase, where members of the staff will have the opportunity to show off their own talents.

The Finest of the Fine Arts festival will conclude the event where students’ work will be displayed.
