Update: Downtown Ottawa power expected to be restored by 5:15 p.m.

Ottawa High School, old La Salle County Courthouse closed Tuesday

Ameren crews work in the parking lot between the Central Life building and the Ferracuti law offices building in downtown Ottawa after a Tuesday, March 8, 2022, power outage.

A power outage Tuesday that closed both the old La Salle County Courthouse and Ottawa High School, among other downtown businesses, is expected to be resolved by 5:15 p.m., Ameren said Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of the outage has not been reported yet, but Ottawa Fire Chief Andy Burkowski said Tuesday morning the fire department was dispatched at 8:18 a.m. to the parking lot between the Central Life Building and the Ferracuti Law Center for a smoking manhole cover.

Ameren crews were working at that location throughout Tuesday afternoon.

The Times will have updates as this story continues to develop.
