Streator wins 8th Route 23 Ryder Cup
The 2021 Battle for Route 23 Ryder Cup went to Streator with a 22-18 victory over Ottawa during the event contested at The Eastwood in Streator. Stevie Limberg and Huston Gass both went 3-0 to help Streator rally back from a deficit after the opening round.
Ottawa leads the all-time series, 5-3.
Shepherd girls cagers split with Channahon
The Shepherd eighth grade girls basketball team lost, 28-11, but the seventh grade Rams won, 39-26, against Channahon. Mary Stisser (six points) led the Shepherd 8s, while Ashlyn Ganiere (29 points) and Reese Purcell (eight points) paced the seventh grade team.
Before that, the 8s defeated Bureau Valley, 40-16, (Stisser 15 points, Aubrey Sullivan eight, Kindley Moore six, Belle Markey five), while Shepherd’s 7s fell 35-34 (Ganiere 18 points, Purcell 10); and both teams topped Peru Parkside – the eighth grade Rams won, 36-15 (Stisser 13, Moore nine, Aubrey Sullivan six); and the 7s won, 33-12 (Ganiere 18 points, Meredith Waldron eight).
Central fifth grade girls off to strong start
In action this season, Central’s fifth-grade girls cagers: beat Serena 12-2 (Kennedy Kane eight points), bested Peru 16-4 (Kane six, Chloe Thrush six), topped Morris 16-2 (Kane six, Thrush four, Jalaiya Berry-Robinson 4), defeated Bureay Valley 22-2 (Kane 10, Thrush six, McKenzie Mool four) and triumhed 16-6 over Channahon (Kane four, Harmony Morgan four).
Muscato scores second ace of summer
Tony Muscato pocketed his second hole-in-one of the year this week on The Eastwood’s 311-yard, par-4 No. 8, playing in the K of C League.

In Ottawa Thursday Night Men’s Fall League play:
Allison Asphalt 7, Korte Turpin Tree Service 4: For Korte Turpin, Andre Hurr doubled twice. For the victors, Jason Gaughan and Dan Dillard had three hits, one a homer, each. Jim Fultz added a homer of his own.
Berta’s Tap 10, Allison Asphalt 0: Hunter Sutton batted 3-for-3 and pitched the shutout. Matt Lambert and CJ Norman homered for Berta’s.
J.F. Brennan 23, Hometown National Bank 5: For J.F. Brennan, Nick Allegretti led the way with three hits including a home run, and Taylor Morgan had two hits including a round-tripper. Seven other players contributed two hits apiece. For Hometown, Bryce Roberts and Ken Hicks had two hits each.
