Shepherd girls finish undefeated season
Shepherd’s eighth-grade girls basketball team closed the season a perfect 11-0 with a 25-24 edging of Seneca. Leading the Rams were Ella Schmitz with a dozen points, Ainsley Leonard with five and Marlie Orlandi with the game-winning shot.
The Shepherd 7s finished 5-6 with a 30-14 loss to Seneca despite Mary Stisser’s six points and four from Skylar Nodland.
Marquette girls hoops win 4 of 6
The Marquette Academy seventh-grade girls basketball team beat Waltham, 28-22, (Hunter Hopkins 15 points, Kinley Rick seven), lost to Shepherd, 19-13, (Anna Hjerpe eight points, Hopkins four) and bested Marseilles, 31-0, (Morgan Collins 10 points, Hopkins seven, Rick six).
The eighth-grade Knights won against Waltham, 53-5, (Makayla Backos 12 points, Alyssa Zellers 11, Kealey Rick 10), were defeated by Shepherd, 30-15, (Backos and Avery Durdan four points apiece) and were victors over Marseilles, 42-2, (Rick 12 points, Maura Condon eight).
Bulldogs Youth Basketball Camps June 2-10
The Streator High School basketball program will resume its annual Bulldogs Youth Basketball Camps in June in Pops Dale Gymnasium, including instruction on fundamentals from SHS coaches and teachers, a camp T-shirt, camp certificate and prizes.
First/second-grade camp will run June 2 to 4 from 8 to 9:15 a.m., costing $30. Third/fourth-grade camp will run June 2 to 4 and June 8 to 10 from 8 to 9:15 a.m. costing $60, with fifth through eighth graders going those same dates 9:30 to 11 a.m., also costing $60.
COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. There is a siblings discount.
