In a back-and-forth, Tri-County Conference battle Tuesday in R.M. Germano Gymnasium, the Woodland Warriors came out on top.
Woodland volleyball defeated host Putnam County in three sets, 25-16, 12-25, 25-23 to notch the TCC triumph. Ella Siebert, Clara Downey and Audrey Jenkins put down five kills apiece for the Warriors. Shaw Simons dished nine assists, with Jena Easton adding eight assists and seven service points.
Somonauk def. DePue 25-6, 25-7: At Somonauk, the host Lady Bobcats (4-6 overall, 4-3 Little Ten Conference) rolled with three long service runs from Katelynn Tripp (11 points), Sydney Johnson (six) and Karlee McBride (seven).
Tripp finished with six kills and three aces; Johnson tallied three kills, 14 assists and three aces; McBride had six kills and six aces; and Gabrie Gozder notched five digs.
Earlville def. Hiawatha 25-13, 25-14: In Little Ten play, the Lady Raiders (9-3 overall, 6-1 LTC) controlled the Hawks.
Brynn Guelde (eight kills, two aces), Elizabeth Browder (seven kills), Emma Benson (23 assists, five digs) and Hailey Kuter (five digs) paced the Earlville attack.
Serena def. Leland 25-10, 25-9: In Little Ten play, the Lady Huskers cruised to victory.
Reese Cole, Katie Baker and Taylor Staton put down four kills apiece for Serena; Baker and Sophie Thompson had three assists each; Staton served up six aces, with Baker, Paige Sexton and Thompson serving up four each; Kallie Cantlin notched four blocks; and Sexton tallied four digs.
Kaneland def. Sandwich 25-19, 25-9: At Maple Park, the visiting Lady Indians (5-7 overall, 4-3 in the I-8) fell despite 10 assists and five digs from Cailyn Brummel, three kills each from Sophia Datoli and Melissa Pfaff, and Lexi Young’s four digs and five points.
JV football
Marquette 38, Princeville 34: At Gould Stadium on Monday, the JV Crusaders’ Carson Zellers passed for 95 yards and three touchdowns, Peter McGrath rushed for 125 yards and two TDs, Griffin Walker added two touchdowns, and Charlie Mullen also scored a touchdown for Marquette (2-1).
On defense, Andrew Hamm and Easton Kent each had five tackles. Griffin Walker added an interception and caused a fumble that was recovered by Primo Patelli.
