York junior Caroline Coan and Hinsdale South sophomore Addy Filipiak both breezed into the quarterfinals of the IHSA state tennis tournament with three wins Thursday, while Hinsdale Central is tied for second in the Class 2A team race.

Led by freshman phenom Riley Lepsi, Wheaton Warrenville South won the DuKane Conference tennis title in a narrow win over Wheaton North in a jam-packed meet that finished on Saturday.

Fenwick sophomore Lily Brecknock, in her first year of playing high school tennis, won the Class 1A state singles championship in helping lead the Friars to the Class 1A team title and the program's first state trophy. She is the Suburban Life girls tennis Player of the Year.

Hinsdale Central and Fenwick are in the hunt for team state titles, while York, Glenbard West and Timothy Christian had individuals advance to quarterfinal-round matches after the first day of action at the state tennis tournament across the northern suburbs.
