DuPage County reports 374 COVID-19 cases Tuesday, 1 death

The DuPage County Health Department on Tuesday reported 374 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 1 death, a man in his 80s.

The county now has seen a total of 63,971 coronavirus cases including 1,027 deaths, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of January 5 was 98.0%.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 10.4%. Currently, 25.0% of medical/surgical beds are available and 24.1% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and two consecutive days over the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 12.3%, and DuPage County is at 9.5%.

Hospitalizations have decreased nine out of the past 10 days in this region.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 81 available, staffed ICU beds out of 324 total and 363 ventilators available out of 581.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 6,642 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 117 additional deaths Tuesday.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate decreased from 7.6% to 7.5%.

By town, Wheaton has had 3,411 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,407, Lombard 3,320, Villa Park 1,983, Hinsdale 1,002, Westmont 1,612, Darien 1,313, Woodridge 2,018, Downers Grove 2,997, Elmhurst 3,313, Warrenville 1,023 and Winfield 823. Addison has had 3,995 confirmed cases, Naperville 5,408, Carol Stream 3,490 and West Chicago 3,549.
