DuPage County reports 387 COVID-19 cases Wednesday, 10 deaths, region’s positivity rate rises to 8.8%

The DuPage County Health Department on Wednesday reported 387 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 10 deaths: 1 man in his 50s, 1 woman in her 80s, 5 men in their 80s, 2 women in their 90s and 1 woman in her 100s.

The county now has seen a total of 58,995 coronavirus cases including 943 deaths, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of Dec. 22 was 97.7%.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate increased to 8.8%. Currently, 21.5% of medical/surgical beds are available and 29.1% of ICU beds.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and five consecutive days over the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 10.9%, and DuPage County is at 7.9%.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 67 available, staffed ICU beds out of 234 total and 379 ventilators available out of 579.

On Wednesday, the Illinois Department of Public Health reported 7,374 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, and 178 additional deaths caused by the virus. The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate increased from 7.4% to 7.6%.

By town, Wheaton has had 3,136 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,207, Lombard 3,031, Villa Park 1,843, Hinsdale 902, Westmont 1,471, Darien 1,180, Woodridge 1,841, Downers Grove 2,667, Elmhurst 3,025, Warrenville 942 and Winfield 764. Addison has had 3,745 confirmed cases, Naperville 5,025, Carol Stream 3,220 and West Chicago 3,296.
